external usb hard drive stopped being reconized

i have a 250 gig external usb hard drive

i was working fine, then out of no where:

when i plug it in nothing happens, i checked the chord, and its works find on my other hard drive.

when i plug it into my computer running xp, the usb icon pops on the bottom, but then i says usb device not recognized.

it there any thing i can do to save the hd?

can anyone help me, or is my hard drive just a paper weight now?

its been a week...still no reply....

i talked to someone who had a similar problem who has a similar problem, and they said they fixed it with a partitioning program.

does anyone know a good program for looking at the partitions of a usb hard drive (250gb)(not a flash drive)?
