View Full Version : [ubuntu] My WiFi Problem

Hello everyone! I am new to ubuntu and am very lost but willing to learn. I have windows xp as my main operating system but i am looking to switch to ubuntu. I have just one problem, my wifi card doesnt seem to work/turn on when i boot into ubuntu! I really do not know how to fix this and any help would be nice! Sorry if i do not understand your advice just try to remember i am NEW! haha thanks everyone.

Don't feel intimidated, but ask for explanation if suggestions seem unclear or complex. Although the GUI is more comfortable, sometimes the terminal (AKA command-line-interface, CLI for short) is the easiest way to get information. So open a terminal, enter lshw -C network and paste the results here. If you happen to know the manufacturer of your wifi chip (or even PC/laptop model), you might include it. The goal is to help (and you won't stay new for long...)

And I think the Wifi card is a D-link i do not know the model number

That card you have is not yet supported by Linux. Just for kicks look in System>Admin>Hardware Drivers. See if you can activate it there.

You can simply set it up with ndiswrapper.
