I personally don't listen to radio or watch tv. I listen to quite a bit of online streams though. Though i've found the best online streams tend to be electronica more than any other genre. Still haven't found a hard rock/hardcore/metal one i enjoy.
Avoiding most FM channels, means Clear Channel doesn't get my support. There's plenty of sources for great music, so i just go after those. (not to pee on anyone's parade or anything).

hmm.... on regular radio I listen to some local channels (the arrow, big 100.3, Jack fm) - washington, dc / balitmore area type channels..
now what I really like is the sirius satilitte radio (can't spell lol).. don't want to get into a debate about sirius vs xm, I looked at the channel difference and stuff before I got it btw, I like channel 14 which is "Classic Vinyl".. then I go to different channels sometimes but I mostly stay on that channel.

i was really excited by sirius and xm in terms of dancer radio, uncensored hip hop, and some metal... after giving each a couple spins on long trips with friends that had it.. i honestly can't see how that's worth the money. Different strokes for different folks i guess..

Not really specific to genres (they change pending what time of day it is) but if I'm listening to the radio it's usually to this. It's also commercial free.

What's a radio station??
15.3 GiB of music on my HDD...hit "random"
...no inane chatter
...no songs I don't like
...I can listen to a very wide variety of formats without fussing with changing the station. If I want a playlist filled with metal, big band, 1920's country blues, and gregorian chants I can have it.
EDIT: okay, for an on topic part to this post...when I did listen to the radio, in the Phoenix area I liked KDKB (http://www.kdkb.com/) and KUPD (http://www.98kupd.com/), but it's seriously been a long time.

When I lived in Chandler/Mesa, I always tuned in to KUPD. Here in Oklahoma City (Edmond) I listen to rock 100.5 the KATT. I was stationed at Williams AFB from March 1989 to Nov 1992. I stayed in the Chandler/Mesa area until my divorce in 1997. My ex-wife ruined Arizona.

I was born in Tucson, but first moved to Phoenix in 1976. I've lived all over Arizona...Tucson, Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Goodyear, Avondale, Glendale, Flagstaff. I move too much. I would imagine when you listened to KUPD that Dave Pratt was still a DJ, right? I actually had one of his Red Rocker cards when I was in high school. Would you believe he is a mellow guy DJing for a local country station now?! (http://kmle108.com/showdj.asp?DJID=22200) :)

DAVE PRATT DJ'S COUNTRY! Sorry about the shouting, I was caught off guard by that one. What would Metallica think! Oh wait, James Hetfield has done some country too.

I listen to shoutcasts alot (http://www.shoutcast.com). Mainly new age and Progressive rock. I have a small number of mp3's and ogg's- this is mostly rare 80's stuff, one hit wonders etc.

That's what a cd burner is for.
A CD that can play in a car stereo only holds what... 15 songs? Besides, blank CDs can be much better used.
