Ehh it kinda depends on the mp3 player you want the firmware for. For some, the retail firmware is perfectly fine and has no issues. For others, the retail firmware is a pile of crap and rockbox can be a better option. It really depends

All the MP3 players that I have owned have always had Rockbox installed ASAP. While I don't have anything bad to say about any retail firmware... I often find them rather limiting when it comes to customisation. Sansas run especially well with Rockbox I have found.
