Ok maybe loving it is a little bit over the top, however I like the crowd on IRC -- different than the forums, and the pace is usually a lot quicker. Anybody else have any good experiences (or bad)?

I prefer the IRC crowd in general, especially on Freenode.

Yeah the Ubuntu IRC is a great channel. It's more fun, because its more interactive; real time chat is always more engaging than "bulletin board" style forums imo.

I can't say I like the irc channel. It's always too crowded and I can't ever get any support on it. The ubuntu server channel is fine, but I usually use my LUG's channel for support first.

I use chatzilla as my IRC client -- but I'm the only one I know that uses this client

I also use chatzilla so that makes two of us :-P. I like how everything is in 1 window, unlike pidgen.

I occasionally use IRC, and when I do I use irssi. I personally find forums easier to keep up on.
