Is there a clipboard manager (similar to klipper in KDE) for Ubuntu 9.04.
Using GNOME 2.26 as the desktop.

sudo apt-get install glipper

Right click on top taskbar and add to panel>clipboard manager

Glipper crashes on GNOME desktop.

I have added klipper to the panel, but not sure how to get it to auto-start every time I log into Ubuntu ?

Try Pacellite from Add/Remove Programs. A simple basic functionality clipboard manager with low memory footprint. I have been using it on Ubuntu 9.04 for the past 3-4 months now without any problem.
