I finally got awesome working. The thing on the top left doesn't look right and I can't take it out in my rc.lua because it's blank. Does anyone have an rc.lua with the default look where I can edit tag names and take the thing out of the right corner

Okay so I found out how to change tags by copying /etc/xdg/awesome/rc.lua to ~/.config/awesome/rc.lua but I still can't figure out how to remove that annoying number thing in the top right corner

I'm looking for the default rc.lua file. My /etc/xdg directory does not contain an awesome/ dir. I installed awesome using apt-get. Has something gone wrong with the awesome package? I just installed a fresh 9.04 install in a VirtualBox VM.

Thanks,
Myles

Myles, the version of awesome in the ubuntu repos is pretty old, version 2, you want to build awesome 3 from source:

http://awesome.naquadah.org/

or use this ppa:
