Hi all,

I am basically a new user in ubuntu and I need to install windows for a dual boot and I'm wondering if i can install windows without deleting ubuntu? And if i cant do that is there any way that i can back up ubuntu, then install both ubuntu and windows and last us the backed up ubuntu so that all the same settings are still there for that. i know this is a really bad constructed question but i am new so cut me some slack please. if there is anything unclear, which is probably a lot, then just ask me something and i'll answer it.

thanks!

you don't have to touch your ubuntu other than backing up just in case something goes wrong. Follow the instructions in the link merlin gave you. If you install windows to the same hard disk as Ubuntu you will have to restore GRUB and then you will be good to go. The windows bootloader will overwrite GRUB. It is really simple to restore GRUB, if you have problems post back here.
