I have been trying to get moving wallpaper, using xwinwrap for a very long time now. I couldn't get this fixed on ubuntu 8.10, so now that I have 9.04, I want to try again.

basically, I when I type in a command like :
xwinwrap -ov -fs -- /usr/lib/xscreensaver/glmatrix -root -window-id WID

which is suppose to run the matrix screen saver on the background, it covers everything on my desktop I then have to use the killall xwinwrap command to stop it.

I am not sure what is the problem. I noticed that other people were also having the same problem on this:
http://tech.shantanugoel.com/projects/linux/shantz-xwinwrap

I have not come across a fix yet though. I am using an ATI graphics card, with the proprietary drivers for it (AGLRX)- if that makes any difference.

Moving wallpaper...sounds like fun. Why xwinwrap? Looks painful...

what are you saying, is there another way to achieve this without using xwinwrap? I have been searching for this high and low, but couldn't find anything else. How else can I get animated wallpaper?

Hi shresthanator (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=645865)

You were suppose to forget my post, but since you didn't...

I was going to try to build a moving wallpaper, never tried it before. I did not know that choice was limited to xwinwrap. I did see some things about berly animated wallpaper in linux but stop reading when I seen the fusion word...

goodluck

i have the same problem, i had to right click my windows and select "always on top" so far that seems to help a lot with the problem.
