i have this setup, but i have no desktop icons, cause i had to turn of the option in natalius, can this be done so i can use my desktop and have different wallpapers?

I don't think that it is possible to do that and keep your icons with gnome (yet). Though if I remember correctly, KDE might be able to.

e17 can do this, and I think I heard about KDE being able to as well as the previous poster, don't know for sure though.

ok :( i prefer gnome to kde.. i guess i will live with out my rarely used icons for now..

you can use the folderview screenlet (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Folderview+Screenlet?content=102890) to display your desktop icons. its not a perfect replacement, but it might be worth a try.

The funny thing is, I remember when I used Linux around 2003, both Gnome and KDE had this feature, and now neither of them do - at least by default :/.
