I am using 8.** and have downloaded 32 and 64 bit ISO images, copied to DVD, files are on DVD but system reports: 1. DVD is possibly not Debian format. 2. Cannot mount DVD.
System recognizes that there is an update and launches a panel to start update manager then "Cannot mount DVD" or words to that effect. Tried to change package manager to recognize CD/DVD - not recognized. Package manager shows first download 9.04 i386 32 bit but not second download 64 bit. Require both for laptop, 32bit and desktop 64 bit.
All help would be very much appreciated.

How did you burn these images?

1 image per disk?

4x speed?

What are your system specs?

After putting a blank CD or DVD in the drive and clicking CANCEL, run Sound and Video/Brasero. You will see a "Burn image" option. Pick that and point it at an ISO file, and burn the image. Then boot from the disc.

"Copy" provides file backup, but doesn't produce a bootable CD/DVD.

Will give that a try. Thanks :)

Tried the new burn method. Boot from DVD gave me a monochrome striped screen.
Tried using update manager, recognized update but Jaunty failed to install with following error msg:

It's definitely there but my system cannot see it!

when you boot from the disk, choose check disk for defects

Checking the disk at start-up is not an option - as above "monochrome striped screen" nothing else but stripes and no user input response when booting directly from DVD.
With 8.04 up and running, inserting the DVD brings a message like 'new software detected - launch Synaptic package manager'
Clicking on the launch button brings up an error message like 'can't read disk - possibly not debian format' or words to that effect.
I can click on the DVD icon and bring up the content and the content is displayed in the synaptic package manager screen - despite the error screen saying it may not be debian??
Trying to load any of the new packages from the package manager brings up an error message - disk unreadable, poss not debian etc.
The rest of my system can see the content of the DVD but the package manager cannot do anything useful with it.
I have been through my Linux/Unix books and online help and cannot find the correct syntax and command for 'Checking the integrity of the DVD disk'
