So, I'm going away for a conference to Beijing this march. Now, it's all very fine to go and play United Nations but if we move on to the really important stuff... People keep telling me that electronics and computer hardware is very...very...VERY cheap there.;)

So here's the important question: "What should I take home with me!?"

Do I want a PDA? Do I want a laptop? New GPU?

So I though it would be fun to post a question in the Community Cafe.

If you only had the money to buy one gadget/widget, what would you buy?

That's because their opressive communist government has people working in shops for a few dollars a day.

But if you want to bring back something I'd look around for an iMac with the Intel Duo processor.

I'd get lots of the same thing for cheap then flog them off when you get home for a profit.... but the Intel DUO Mac does sound MIGHTY tempting!

Definitely a new laptop - some cool new Pentium M Dual Core machine with a high quality display. Even with taxes that should be cheap and it's far easier to transport than an Intel Mac ;)

Looks like underwear to me, in which case it's more likely to be Japanese, and used...

Seriously, make a list of all the goodies you would like, and the prices.
Shop around, be sure to know exactly what you're buying, and what it would cost you at home. Beware of bait and switch tactics. They show you the top of the range model, make an unbelievable deal, you get so caught up in the fact that you think you've driven a real hard bargain that you don't realise they've sold you a much lower spec device than you thought you were buying.

Heh, I told you it would be Japan...

Incidentally, If you've seen my desk in the 'show your desk' threads, you might see the stuffed tux hanging from the lamp. I won that in one of those crane machines. first shot too. :D

Could you bring me back a coffee mug?

So currently I have to bring back:

- 4 iMac's
- 3 Laptops
- 1 Young Chinese Girl
- 1 Pair of used oriental womens undergarments
- 1 Mobile Phone with if possible a swiss army knife ;)

Now I don't know if the Chinese Girl will fitt in my suitcase, although I don't think she will be a large problem for my weight allowance. ;)
I was leaning towards an iBook, but on the otherhand, why an iBook instead of a normal laptop. Dual-core processors do sound great.

I liked the PDA because of the cool factor...but on the otherhand, PDA's are highly overrated, I've never seen anybody use one sensibly.

Now a used panty vending machine, that would earn itself back in...minutes!

I would get a Thinkpad since they cost way less over there.

But if I could bring back anything I would get bookleg DVDs of all my favorite shows. U.S. law says you can bring such things back with you!

Are you kind of stupid? Its the capitalistisc system that keeps people working for a couple of dollars a day. Yes, its only a communist country by the name. Socialism would make a better world for everyone.
