I'm trying to install the libg2c0-dev package but it doesn't exist in jaunty. Is there a recommended way to get it from a prior release (I believe it was available in Intrepid)

It's there; you need to enable the universe repository.

Universe is enabled and I'm not seeing it. Please post your sources.list and the results of apt-cache search libg2c0-dev
