upgrade into even newer than ubuntu package manager?

Hi:

I am using apt-get to install getmail. But there is an error that has been fixed specifically at a newer version. How do I upgrade to that version?

PS: why ubuntu upgrade their package so slow, the getmail version in the package site is already a year ago.
