This is what the description on their sourceforge project (http://sourceforge.net/projects/freedownload/) says

Using this free download manager and accelerator, you can download files and complete web sites up to 6 times faster than before. Also we plan to port it to Linux and Mac OS.
Hopefully, they'll port it soon.

I wonder how well the Windows version runs in WINE. :p

It crashes regularly on mine and the download queue is lost after every crash

Do not be fooled with that "SIX TIMES FASTER". They said it because it can use 6 threads to download something. But, it is old trick. Plain firefox plugin called DownThemAll can do this. Or just about any other better download manager.

It is faster on some server where they limit you to 50kb/s and X 6 threads you get full speed depending on your connection, not faster.

Flashget works fine in WINE. Might I also suggest JDownloader?

I agree with this

Good news. Thanks for sharing. I wish they do a true Linux port and not simply bundle it with WINE like Google Picasa.

Sigh. What nonsense.
