Hi,

I have installed Ubuntu 32 several times before, but today is my first time installing Ubuntu 64.

I am trying to boot the LiveCD on a Dell XPS 435 Core i7. I burnt the 64version of Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS.

I get to the initial screen in which I select "try ubuntu without modifying your computer"...but after a few seconds of the Ubuntu splash screen, it leaves me at a terminal saying something like..."intams> type help for common commands" (I dont remember exactly the wording but basically it gets stuck at a text based screen.

I tried startx with no luck...

is this a common issue? any suggestions?

I figured that teh fact that it showed me the initial graphical menu means the CD was burnt correctly, is this so?

chances are it doesn't like your ati video card. If you want to install it, try the alternate install cd instead.

Just to report that I forgot about 8.04 lts 64bit and went straight for the 9.04 Live CD 32 bit and I noticed that it started perfectly...so, I went and burnt a copy of 9.04 64bit and viola!
