View Full Version : [ubuntu] dual monitor setup suddenly no longer works

I have been attaching my laptop every day to an additional monitor when I come in to work, from the very first day I installed ubuntu (9.04) this has always worked pretty well. I attach the monitor, turn on the computer, and it all "just works" usually. Arbitrarily (as best as I can tell) I'll have to go into the display settings, adjust the resolutions of my screens, and then when I hit apply I'm asked to log out and back in. This has also worked consistently over the past two months.

Today however, I can't get this to work. I boot up the computer with the monitor attached, Ubuntu starts, only the laptop screen is turned on. So I go into display, configure it how I normally would, then log out and back in, and it is still set to only display the laptop screen.

Anyone have any ideas or troubleshooting tips? I have automatic login configured (no login screen normally, just boots directly to my user's desktop) which I have a feeling might be messing with some things.
