Keep applications on certian virtual desktops

Is there anyway in Ubuntu 9.04 to define a certain virtual desktop that an application must stay in, and won't move to a different one unless moved by me?

Basically a program or something to keep programs in certain virtual desktops, from start-up to shut-down.

pretty sure fluxbox does do this with it's startup apps, is that standard on other window managers ?

If you use compiz, the CompizConfig Settings Manager: Window Management, Place Windows, Fixed Window Placement.
