I love the android mobile OS but it would be cool to have ubuntu running on it. Is there an ubuntu distro for the G1?

Have you considered instead trying to modify Android to look and behave more like Ubuntu?

it possible but not easy link (http://www.saurik.com/id/10)

unfortunately you have to jailbreak it etc, which is annoying

Is there another way to "modify it" without having to jailbreak it?

you can modify it yes, i assume you can change the wall paper etc but to install another os you would need to jail break it.

Ok. What about the Ubuntu MID? I wonder if it would run.

it would almost certainly be unusably slow.
