The x84 32-bit Jaunty installs fine, but when I try to delete the partition and install the 64-bit Jaunty, installation states that either my optical drive is shot, or my hard drive is shot and the installation cannot continue. So I reverted back to 32-bit to see if it was actually the problem, and 32-bit installed perfectly fine..

Anybody know what the problem is? Should I burn another 64-bit CD?

I'm running 4GB of DDR2 RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo/Centrino2 that is 64-bit compatable. Running nVidia Quadro 770m 512MB workstation graphics as well..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you run 'Check CD for defects' on the 64-bit LiveCD?

if it checks out ok after Ann's suggestion check the iso you downloaded - MD5SUM (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM)

If that checks out try burning the image to Cd at a slow speed such as 4x.

I have done the Check CD for Integrity or whatever it checks for. It passes. I'll try to re-install again. My laptop was running at like 104F but I don't think that was too hot.

Okay, well I tried re-installing it. Didn't work. I'm redownloading it right now. I don't have the iso image of the original 64-bit Jaunty anymore. I'm going to use that MD5SUM program on the iso to see if it checks.

The sums are different from what the iso says and what it should be from the UbuntuHashes.

Then your iso is corrupted. They should match exactly! Try downloading from a bittorrent link or a different download location.
