kubuntu & xubuntu

I know that I probably sound like a total n00b by asking this question, but what is kubuntu and xubuntu?

BTW, i have Jaunty 9.04, and I dont have the time to google right now.

Kubuntu is Ubuntu with KDE instead of Gnome. And Xubuntu is Xcfe instead of Gnome. Basicly it is a Ubuntu with a different desktop enviroment.

Linux has a desktop environment(DE) installed on top of it.
All the GUI you see is decided by your desktop environment

The default Ubuntu comes with GNOME DE

Kubuntu comes with K DE

Xubuntu comes with Xfce DE

Each DE comes with its own set of applications although you can mix various DE
