Hey, when i recently upgraded from Windows XP to Jaunty, my first attempt was to simply install ubuntu on my external HDD so I could continue to dual boot on my Dell XPS M140 Laptop. Well, the process was successful, but afterwards, I tried to boot XP off my internal HDD, and GRUB came up with an error message telling me that the XP disc image was corrupted. It doesn't really matter anymore, I just put ubuntu on my internal and made it my main OS, but why would installing Jaunty on my external corrupt the Operating System on my internal?
