Hello all, I'm in the market for a webcam for use with skype.

Does anyone know of uvc webcams that are guaranteed (or, at least you've had personal success) to work with Skype in Ubuntu Jaunty.

I already have a Logitech Eyetoy (PS2), which is not uvc compliant (obviously). Also, the sound does not work. (No one has provided a fix for that, as I know of)

I'm looking in the price range of <$40.

I'm considering the Hercules Dualpix Exchange, which looks to be a good cam based on reviews and is UVC-compliant. However, this person seems to have a problem with it in skype, when both the video and the sound are accessed simultaneously in Skype. (http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=361841)

If anyone knows of a budget webcam w/ an integrated mic that works well in Ubuntu and preferably with skype, it would be greatly appreciated!

Just in case it matters, this is my system:
Dell Inspiron 6000
Intel Pentium MMX Processor 1.8Ghz
ATI Mobility Radeon Graphics Card
1GB DDR2 RAM

Thanks!

I'm going to order the Microsoft VX-5000 and see where it gets me.
All signs point to it working...

I would mark this post as [SOLVED], but I'd like to keep this topic open for additions, to help anyone else in a similar position...

I'll post again when I receive and test the webcam. 'Till then, thanks!

I received the Microsoft Lifecam VX-5000 today, and it worked out of the box with Skype, including the microphone. Also worked in Cheese and xawtv.

Thanks to ptn107 for his response.

Go with Logitech Webcam Pro 9000. Superb webcam. It is HD and have a great wide angle view. It also has microphone. Works like a charm with Jaunty and Skype. Based on my personal experience.

Here's a good list of UVC cameras that should work with Skype:

Just found another cam that works perfectly---Logitech Quickcam Communicate MP.

Quality is great, mic and video work in skype.

Picked it up for $39.99 at Best Buy.

I'm planning to try it out for an actual video chat tonight. I'll be back...
