Hey man, I'm loving your desktop....can I ask a couple of questions:

1) How do you get the workspace "one, two, three, etc" in your task bar? I dont know how to get them named.

2) How do I get that RSS feed (please dont say conky because I cant get my head round it!!)

3) Are they Eikon icons?

Thanks mate.

1. I am using xfce4-panel with it's pager plugin but last I checked, you could go into gnome-panel's pager applet's preferences by right-clicking on it and choose to, "show workspace labels", or something to that effect.

2. Yeah, it's conky. In my sig, there's one by the name 'conkyrsstemplate' which if you open with a text editor and scroll down, has something like the following:

###FEED 1 URL### ###FEED 2 URL###
###FEED 1 URL### ###FEED 2 URL###

Just replace the hashes and hash'd text with the URL of the feeds you want. Adjusting the rssbar for different screen resolutions is a tad more difficult, however.

As for conky being a tad abstract, keep playing around with it. I found it daunting as well but after trying screenlets as discovering one bloodly desktop applet could use > 10mb of RAM, I went back and forced myself to learn & love conky (and it's 1mb-per-instance footprint).

3. Yes, Eikon2, with a black folder mod by (I think) Sand and Mercury.

And Giant Speck: now that I've got a monitor with a decent contrast ratio, changing the murrine gradients and highlights was less an optional endeavour and more a measure to save my eyes. Oy vey. I almost feel guilty for subjecting people to my older screenshots.

Yeah, sorry, it's not the rox panel. It's just rox icons ordered as a dock. It's just that - icons ordered to look like a dock, although the icons themselves function the same way as the icons on a dock (the OS X one, i think). For example, you click on the firefox icon, if firefox is not running, it will start. If it is already opened on another desktop or is minimized, it will bring it to focus. There are also some scripts to show some counts (like unread email & rss) in little blue dots on the icons (again, as the OS X mail app).

Anyway to get it to also blur behind metacity alphas?

Alpha Blur should blur anything that has a transparent background. Go in Compiz Fusion, go in the Blur plug-in section, and make sure the text box that has "Alpha Blur Windows" next to it, has "any" in it.

http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/5798/screenshotcompizconfigs.png

Also, keep in mind Metacity just lowers the opacity of the window, the lower the opacity, the less blur. So you may just not be noticing it.

Yes, same rules apply.

Lowering the opacity of a window or part of a window also lowers the opacity of the blur for that said window.

It's amazing, I downloaded that wallpaper literally months ago, but I couldn't get it to fit with any of my themes. I had my simplistic, "8 bit" theme all done, and went looking for wallpaper then remembered I had this! It fit so perfectly, it was quite remarkable.

Here's mine.
I have no bottom panel, I just use compiz's scale and expo plugin along with alt-tab/shift switcher/ring switcher to get my window management done. Having set up hotspots for scale and expo, it now feels much more natural.
The theme is Human with a custom panel background. Emerald Light coffee borders, and a wallpaper from ubuntu artwork flickr pool.

I'll give you a week. ;)

Nice desktop by the way. I like how you put the start menu on the top, very unexpected.

Thanks, I like it this way. It's actually the longest I've stuck with a desktop design in a while.

Using a mish mash of ideas and a great wallpaper from this thread (<3 whoever posted it, can't remember atm), still using Crunchbang, Openbox, and Conky compiled with imlib2 support so I can display album art in conky.
