I have just downloaded Ubuntu 9.04 and copied the ISO image to a CD-ROM disk.

When I reboot the computer, which is normally running Windows XP Pro, I get the Ubuntu screen up, but when I attempt to click on any options, I get [if I remember correctly] a disc error notice.

Previously, I was able to run Ubuntu 6.0 directly from the CD without issues.

SUGGESTIONS ?

I assume that you are burning the CD from XP pro. If, so, then try burning the CD with the free program Infra Recorder:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
Be sure to burn the CD at the slowest possible speed to minimize the chances for data corruption. Then boot the CD and choose the option "check disc for defects". This will take a minute or two to run. If it passes the test, then the disc is good. It is also a good idea to use a CDR, not a CDRW. I have seen CDRWs that would fail to properly burn an iso CD after they had been rewritten to many times.

Another thing that might have happened is a glitch in the download.

Near the link to download the CD image there is probably a MD5 checksum file. Compute a MD5 checksum independently after your download and compare.

Here is a good page about verifying downloads with MD5 checksums in Windows:
