Installing New Fonts? 8.04

I am trying to learn the language of my decendants: Cherokee. On their web site they have the fonts for our language. How do I install them in Ubuntu 8.04?

If you want fonts available for just your user, drop them in a folder called ‘.fonts’ inside your home folder.
