I know that Shiretoko is Firefox 3.5, but I want to run firefox 3.5 and it actually be firefox not under another name. I have trried several methods to get it to run, but I can't make it run.

Here are some of the things I have tried:

http://www.blogsdna.com/3824/how-to-download-install-firefox-35-on-ubuntu-904-linux.htm

http://tuxarena.blogspot.com/2009/07/how-to-install-firefox-35-in-ubuntu-904.html

http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2009/07/03/install-firefox-35-in-ubuntu-904/

I have also tried going into the file you get when you download Firefox 3.5 from mozilla.com then clicking ont eh Firefox program in there and running it. It still runs it as 3.0.12

I want to try, but after I paste something into my terminal and it asked for my password I can't type anything. The cursor is blinking but anything I type just doesn't show up

when you are typing your password into Terminal it will not show anything. Just type in your password and hit enter. I guess they designed it like that so admins don't have to worry about people watching and knowing how many letters you are typing or something like that.

Edit: Oops, didn't see that you had responded.

I tried to do this one but I got an erroe code within the terminal and this is what it said:

cp: cannot create regular file `/home/robbie/.mozilla.backup/.mozilla/firefox/ofuwhsab.default/extensions/{D4DD63FA-01E4-46a7-B6B1-EDAB7D6AD389}/install.rdf': Permission denied

I did this and it is working perfectly. I will just go with this one, but what happens when Mozilla releases the next version, will it update itself?

It'll probably be a hassle until someone gets it fixed up like the way it is now. I personally haven't been able to get any other version to work with out messing my system up. Just gonna wait for it on the official Ubuntu 9.10 release. It isn't on the KK Alpha3.

That's not cool. I am sure somone will drop in and help you fix it. Please be patient though.
