Caution! Beware! Microwave Fire Hazards!

I once worked with a girl who started a fire in the microwave by boiling a cup of water, the cup had metallic paint on it ~ don't put metallic paint objects in the microwave!

If I wrap a paper towel around a frozen habanero to defrost in the microwave the habanero stem will ignite the paper towel after about ten seconds ~ don't wrap a paper towel around your frozen habanero when defrosting your frozen habanero in the microwave!

Today I caught a bag of microwave popcorn on fire in the microwave, the popcorn manufacture sold a smaller version of their microwave popcorn, I didn't notice this, thus the one touch setting for popcorn cooking on the microwave caught the bag of popcorn on fire ~ beware of new packaging sizes by microwave popcorn manufactures!

Make sure you have fire insurance whether you rent or own!

Maybe you shouldn't use a microwave.

Ok, maybe you shouldn't go anywhere near a kitchen unsupervised.

Also, I've heard it'sa good idea not to put a CD in a microwave, apparently it goes really weird and blows the thing up. Just going to see if it's on Youtube.

The CD does makes some crazy sounds, and it cracks the data layer of the CD.

First link is not safe for work (I haven't seen it but it did ask for me to verify my age so this is why)

Second link: Now THAT's what I call burning a disc! :lolflag:

You're kidding right?

All of these are common knowledge, or at least should be, for anything related to microwave usage.

Metal anything = bad.
Foil = bad, because it's metal! Whoa.
Dried-out woody objects like stems = Bad.

Explosives? If you put explosives in a microwave, you've done it wrong.

Depending on what metal you put into the microwave you can blow up your house. Metal anything isnt just bad or a fire 'risk' its outright dangerous.

Tinfoil should only cause a minor explosion (maybe only affecting the kitchen area) if you blast at it for long enough.

I once destroyed a very nice microwave I had with a Chinese take away box that I didn't realize had a metal staple in it. The box started on fire and really melted the top inside of the microwave requiring me to purchase a new not as good one.

I always see people put things they shouldn't in the microwave

Non microwave safe paper towels and plates (which is a majority of them)- release toxic compounds

Plastic- even if the plastic says microwave safe its still not recommended to come in contact with food in the microwave (go figure) http://www.scn.org/~bk269/plastics.html

Plastic baby bottles- you should NEVER microwave a baby bottle, for one because its plastic and could release BPA or other toxins, but two it can heat the liquids unevenly resulting in hot spots.

..and people are surprised when the find out they or someone they love has cancer?
