That article is from January, yet there is no sign of a beta release. Does anyone know when maybe a new release may appear?

It would also be nice if it didn't look like feces when running in GNOME.

What's wrong with Skype 4 on Windows?

I disagree. I find it far better than the linux client!

What do you mean? Jaunty uses Qt 4.5, which has QGtkStyle by default.

As long as you use the dynamic version and run with --disable-cleanlooks, it looks like a native Gnome application.

According to a slashdot article today, the future of skype is kind of at risk due to some licensing issues: (disclaimer: I don't know how accurate that article is.)

I wouldn't trust anything that is reported by Slashdot.

Slashdot is merely a news aggregator, there's nothing to trust or distrust.

Euhm, maybe it's a coincidence, but there has just appeared a new post on the blog you posted :)

I know many of you have been waiting for a while for this news – I can’t make any promises about when it’ll be released, but watch this blog for further updates.

They have been saying a new version is coming since January. Just a delay tactic to keep linux skype users from switching...

Skype really needs to update the sound architecture as this is the biggest issue ATM (alsa based). My audio dies every 10-30 minutes - and I stay on skype 6-8 hours per day. Every 5 minutes I have to ask - still there ?? Very frustrating.

They seem to be putting their efforts into platforms like the Sony PSP - I can't imagine that that user base is anything near Ubuntu's.
