As a fan of Root Beer; one of many of my favorite Root Beers is:

Americana Root Beer

This is one of the America's best micro-crafted, award winning gourmet sodas. It is handcrafted using real cane sugar for the best flavor. Every batch is carefully blended using the best extracts and flavorings and made in the tradition of America's great sodas of yesteryear. Americana sodas are flavorful and refreshing with our seal of approval on every batch!http://www.retrosoda.com/amrobe.html

...and it is HFCS-Free Soda! (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1221322)

Good ol' A&W root beer straight from the "tap."

You know what is sad? I haven't seen a drive-in A&W in years. The only A&W's I see nowadays are in gas stations.

(Feb. 3, 2009) — A&W Restaurants said Tuesday it would introduce for rollout a new prototype that for the first time combines a drive-in and a drive-thru with a dine-in restaurant.http://www.awrestaurants.com/footercontent/news_020309.asp

So essentially, it'll just be a traditional A&W with a drive-thru added...

Five “Three D” prototype units were opened by franchisees in Wisconsin last year to test the concept. Though company officials would not release sales figures, they said they were very pleased with their performance.
Franchisees are planning to open another 15 such prototypes this year, mostly in Wisconsin, Michigan and Oregon, and the new prototype will be the format for all new A&W Restaurants going forward, officials said.
The move is a return to roots of sorts for A&W, which was founded in 1919 by Roy Allen in Lodi, Calif., specializing in root beer served in frosty mugs. Later, he opened a second root-beer stand in Sacramento, Calif., which company officials say was the nation’s first drive-in, with “tray boys” offering curbside service. Eventually, the brand grew into a full-service restaurant....

362 A&W units are standalone restaurants. Of those about 150 have drive-in service.http://www.awrestaurants.com/footercontent/news_020309.asp

That's cool. The one in my hometown closed after our town's first Sonic opened up. It was a combination of lowered sales and the fact that its location was a death trap. I will always prefer A&W food over Sonic, but I do prefer all of Sonic's drink choices over A&W (except for the root beer, of course). :D

Taste is too "weird" for me.

I honestly have never been to an A&W drive-up, I like Sonic very much...if you say A&W is better then I look forward to experiencing an A&W drive up restaurant.

I hate root beer.

Taste is too "weird" for me.Some are very weird and practically undrinkable, like Virgil's but because there are no standards to Root Beer you have a wide array of taste on the continuum.

That's okay. I don't like fruit-flavored soda like orange, grape, black cherry, etc. I'm more of a dark soda kind of guy.

A&W from tap,
IBC from the bottle,
Absolutely none from a can.

Even better than ginger ale is ginger beer.

now ginger beer is a soda-with-beer-in-the-name that's useful. just add dark or golden rum, and some limes

The original Root Beers had alcohol in them, I have never had an alcoholic Root Beer, I suspect it would make a world of difference.
