You can modify XFCE's panel to look and behave like a dock if you're into that kind of thing.

Right now I'm trying gnome-do docky, and I'm liking it. I just wish it was more customizable. I've tried AWN and Cairo, and of those I think I like AWN the most.

Cairo has always been pretty buggy for me, but it seems like it would be really nice if it worked right...

I haven't used any others because of all the Gnome deps. Plus I don't really need a dock anyway, I just like to play around with it once in a while.

I use both awn and cairo. I'm pretty sure cairo can be put in different locations...

AWN is probably the more stable, cairo still has quite a few bugs.

Gnome-do docky is a nice idea, but quite spartan when it comes to features.

Have you tried dockbarx??

Its pretty much windows 7 taskbar, but I like the feature it has that allows me to use compiz scale effect to preview groups of windows.

Here's a screencast I did a couple months ago. http://moon-shiny.blogspot.com/2009/06/quick-screencast.html

Expect the new code to start hitting the awn-testing ppa within days.
