Conkeror is a mozilla based web browser designed to be completely keyboard driven, no compromises. It also strives to behave as much like Emacs as possible. This means all the keybindings and to-die-for features of Emacs that can be imitated by a javascript/XUL web browser Just Work.

Your topic's name should be changed... The emacs shortcuts are not like the ones in VI... I'm very used to emacs, but I can't work at all with VI.

Here's a site that I found very helpful in making Firefox more Vi/VIm-like (as far as that is possible) :

http://www.calmar.ws/firefox/index.php

I would also recommend the great Hit-A-Hint extension to anyone who wants to control Firefox primarily from the keyboard :

Coming from Windows, I've never understood anything about vi or emacs, some people like in the FSF, seem to cling to one or another like if it's a religion  see http://www.stallman.org/saint.html

Give me WYSIWYG (gedit, kate, nano) any day! :D

Seriously, the firefox extension would be very useful to vi users, but I've never gotten into control codes and the like.

vim or emacs are both good. For one, they're very lightweight (vi more so than emacs?). And they're frightfully efficient at what they're designed to do--edit text.

That's all they do. If that's what you need, they're great.

I favor vim, because it keeps my fingers nearer the home keys on a qwerty keyboard....and I never really felt much of an urge to learn emacs' control-chords.

there's a VI mode too which emulates the VI keybindings :)
