I was just looking at some dell computers, do you guys think that this one (http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dncwzl1&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19) is good? It has twice the memory my current computer has, three times the hard drive space, and a much more current video card than my integrated ati xpress 200m.

There are better PCs than Dell, also in case you need to use Linux, please avoid anything with ATI. System 76 has pre-configured PCs with Ubuntu installed, they are also far better built and supported right at this forum. They are Ubuntu certified and you can check them out at http://www.system76.com/

Its doesn't look like a bad PC, I'd be concerned about the battery life, with only 4 cells.

I really like DELL's warranties.
I'm only just satisfied with their actual support though.

The reason I looked at dell instead of system 76 is because my dad worked there for long enough that he gets discounts on all dell items. That laptop would be much cheaper, so given the power I'd get for the price, I think it's a great deal.

If you already have half that much memory, you may not need a new computer yet -- you could get an external or larger hard drive for your current laptop.

I have X200M in a laptop, and it does have drawbacks, but it works OK as long as you don't try to use the latest ATI driver.

If you want this computer, it looks good, just consider a larger or extra battery, and see which video card you want.

What does your Dad think?

System 76 uses ATI cards, though...
