I've had error messages when trying to install Xubuntu LTS version on an IBM T21 2647 8BG laptop. One suggested a corrupt CD or HDD or dirty DVD drive lens. I checked HD for errors & burnt a fresh CDRW.
Then on my second install attempt I checked CD for errors with Ubuntus own utility, fine. But when trying install had a black screen with constant lines of white writing saying it could not read block/sector something (shoulda wrote it down.)
Anyway now on my third attempt the install has frozen at 79% creating user. I suspect the DVDRW drive itself, though to be honest never had a problem with it in Windows. Maybe it's a hardware/driver issue? The drive is an NEC model.
Any suggestions gratefully received, meanwhile I will try with another CD/DVD drive tomorrow, I have three in total, including suspected duff drive.
