I pronounce it eee-ex-tee-three. It is an abbreviation of the "third extended file system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext3)"

I pronounce it as "ekst-tres" since I am Mexican and for some reason my brain always reads numbers in spanish even when reading english. :P

yep i read it as E X T three as well. just like NTFS. although we say FAT in FAT32. I know its confusing. just wait till the btrfs (http://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Main_Page) comes out. Will you read it as butter filesystem or better filesystem? :KS

I do the same thing in reverse. I can be translating a sentence in my head, and it takes as long to translate the number as it does to do the rest of the sentence.

btfs is infact either "B-Tree FS" or "Butter FS". :)

as for ext3, it's either "ex-three" or "e-x-t-three" depending on my mood and who I'm talking too.

It's a bit like tomayto, tomarto ... Lin-ux, Lie-nucks ...

Even though it stands for Third Extended Filesystem of Extended 3, I say extension 2,3,4.

XFS, UFS, NTFS, HFS are said N T F S

FAT32, linux-swap, and Reiserfs are said as words (With FAT32 pronounced fat thirty-two)

I actually pronounce it "εξτρία".

Heh, I recall a training I had went to in France, where the tutors would pronounce the numbers in abbreviations in French out of habit.

(is it "I had went to" or "I have gone to" ?)
