Hi, Hope I'm in the right place to ask a question about OpenOffice 3.0.

I had a PDF document that I saved as a .doc document on my desktop.

Last night there was a big upgrade in the Upgrade Manager, but now my

document will not open, and Open Office is asking me for ASCII: a)

Character Set, (Which Do I Choose? : Unicode, Unicode 7, or Unicode 8 ),

b) Default Font: New Times Roman, and c) Language: English... But, the

document is opening as binary code instead of English. Have I lost the

document completely ?

Whenever I have problems with OpenOffice I go to their user forum (unless someone has already posted a fix on this forum).

If Open Office from the Ubuntu upgrade system have failed to function properly, you can always uninstall it and download the package directly from the OpenOffice.org homepage (http://www.openoffice.org/) and hope that it will solve your problem.

I'm too impatient ! I discarded the pdf, and hope to have time to go find another copy ! I thought I had Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, but then I could be mistaken ! lol
