Hi

I'm looking for a cheap webcam, and have seen a few at ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/search?page=1&store=4&cat=153&subcat=1711)

However, none of them look to be on the webcam compatibility list (http://linux-uvc.berlios.de/).

Does anyone know if these webcams are likely to work ok (eg with Ekiga) or am I likely to have problems etc?

Many thanks for looking.

hey, just because it isnt on the list doesnt mean it wont work! a lot of webcams are linux compatible so check with the manufacturer if they will work before you part with your money. Most webcams that are built into laptops that arent on the list work well too...

I bought this webcam (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135601).

Got it today and it doesn't do a thing. Plugged it in and not a sausage. Tried messing around with a load of stuff VNC, cheese, gstreamer-properties etc and still nothing.

Guess it'll be going in the bin soon. So much for living dangerously...

I don't know if you'll consider this cheap (i'm in the US) but i have Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000 that works perfectly fine Skype (audio and video). Video appears in VLC and Cheese, but i haven't figured out how to get the audio to work. I haven't used Ekiga before so i can't tell you how it works under Ekiga.

After 3 hours of messing about, I've got video! Needed to install a driver from here (http://groups.google.com/group/microdia/web/testing-microdia-driver-draft)

Another 2 hours and then I got the microphone to work too.

Just need to get skype up an running next.

Happier than I was yesterday :)
