View Full Version : [other] Recording Log Output on network equipment?

First off, I'm not 100% sure if this would be the right place to put this. Just let me know and I'll move it or close it and go elsewhere as necessary.

Anyway, on to my question... I have a Siemens SpeedStream DSL modem that outputs it's logs on an HTML page. It records 200 or so lines and then deletes the oldest one. Because of my terrible connection, I can burn through this is about 5 minutes. What I would like to do is somehow run a script on one of my Ubuntu Servers that would poll the log, record ONLY the new lines, and then save them (btw, the logs are timestamped). Does this sound do-able?

I would also like something that could analyze uptime or something, but I could always grep out what I don't need and then toss it into a spreedsheet or something.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
