Ok I said someone should start a poll here (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=686560&postcount=18) then I was browsing the forums and ran into this (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=685275&postcount=1) Now I know that curiosity kills that cat but I know have to know how many of you run / admin / mod your own forums.

Feel free to provide a link also.

I used to be a mod on a forum with quite a bit of users... Dont remember exactly how many, but it was in the 10,000 - 50,000 range =P

I mod at http://www.dancingmokey.com

I run a small, private board for a few friends and invitees. That one has 25 members. Ask nicely and I'll let you in! ;)

I used to moderate a popular Anime-based forum (though it had catagories for almost everything), which had over a million users. I left when I realized I hated most of the people on there.

I almost forgot, I also ran my own Metal forum for a short while, though the hosting provider I was with went belly up and I never got round to reuploading and trying again.

I'm an admin at a phones site (forum.mobile9.com) which turns out to have 160092 registered members at present. I voted for the 'up to 50000' option anyway, because I reckon that's the max number people active on the forum ever.

I also mod at a Dutch ISP forum (forum.versatel.nl) which has slightly over 8000 members. This forum will not be part of my duties for much longer though :(

I used to be an admin at yet another phones forum (forums.se-nse.net) but I had to give it up because I had too many sites on my hands

Finally I'm a mod at a gadget talk forum (forums.guru4u.co.uk), incidentally also the place that first alerted me to the existence of Ubuntu ;)
Since there are only a few active members, and almost all of those are part of the forum staff in one way or another, being a mod there involves virtually no duties at all, other than regular posting. It's a nice friendly little place and I think you should all check it out at least once!

There... shameless plugging done

I started www.2gss.org in 2002 its just a car enthusiast site. I've also helped run/build a couple other forums. I do web hosting as a side biz...and no I'm not one of those who uses a hosting service and tries to resell part of the service I pay for  I actually build my OWN servers and keep it at here in town at the local ISP where I was former employee and still in good standing.

*feel free to thrash me for the "plug"*

I moderate 2 forums at www.bluelight.ru (the general discussion and the politics forums). I moderated 3 other forums there as well, but i stepped down from those, it was too much work. It's a forum dedicated to harm reduction with drug use. There's over 60,000 members, about 3 thousand regulars.

I also admin/run www.thepeoplesvoice.ws which i and another admin sucessfully ran into the ground. It had about 100 members i think.

Wow I have been checking the links and so far its all true.... Is this normal for a forum, or are we just extra active ubuntu geeks?

This is an active forum!

This forum has the advantage of a ton of members who are all interested in the same topic. That helps.

I've noticed "general" forums tend to have fewer active members. Don't know why.

My little private "friends" forum has 23 members, five of which are active. Breaks down to:

6094 Posts in 1467 Topics

Opened last week of May, 2005. We are a talkative little bunch, we are.

I used to be in charge of the "General Stupidity" forum at Worth1000 (http://www.worth1000.com/) when it existed. I don't have a clue why they picked me!

And you bet I promote OSS (and Opera, 'cause I'm a fanboy). If a "why am I getting viruses?" message is posted and I don't reply with "because you're using IE" within half an hour, someone phones to check if I slipped in the tub.

I do my web hosting on windows 2003 web edition. :-# with alot of php and mySQL back ends. I have considered trying linux, but I think I have alot to learn before taking that step and untill then I can't risk any foo-ups so maybe eventually I can setup a test machine and get my hands dirty with it.

I'm an admin on SE-NSE (http://www.se-nse.net). There are currently over 18,000 registered members; there would be more, but we deleted some inactive accounts.

@Vlamm

Fancy bumping into you here. :p
