Hi. When I login, I like to have certain progams start automatically, and position themselves at particular places on the screen, and sometimes on particular virtual desktops.

I figured out how to run programs on login (with Xsession and .gnomerc). And I can position (most) apps with the --geometry parameter. However, I want to have some apps start on other virtual desktops. So, for example, I want to have my mail reader start on my fourth virtual desktop, so I can't see it until I switch over there. I haven't found a way to do this. Giving high coordinates to the --geometry parameter doesn't work. Does anyone know of a way to do this?

You can use either Compiz (Window Rules) or devilspie - either will do the job.
