View Full Version : [ubuntu] where is the installed software

dear friends i'm a new user, i have installed avg antrivrus by *.deb file through package installer. Now i'm searching it in the application menus, but i cannot find it as i was used to find them in the windows OS. plz tell me how to do it.

go into a terminal and type
whereis avg(Put whatever the name of the app is in place of avg if needed)
Actually you could install the clam anti-virus system instead if you wanted.
search for clam in the add/remove application or do a search for clam in synaptic package manager.

i have located the software by whereis command, but i think the icon of installed software should appear somewhere in menus, as it happens in Windows. How can it be located.

You can add it manually through the menu editor.

If you can't find an icon it's probably a command line tool.
