Ubuntu menu

Hi all,

I wish to create my own menu applet, and was wondering where/how the ubuntu menu finds information(app logo path, app name, app path) for each of the installed applications for its menu? If I could use the same technique as this, that would be great!

Any help would be great, thanks :)

search through gconf, but it uses .desktop files I think. another thing to look is to look into gnome/kde documentation (depending on what you use).
