View Full Version : [xubuntu] peed/weight differences between xubuntu 7.10/8.04/9.04

I have a P3-667/512mb ram loaded with xubuntu 7.10 and working at acceptable speed, and a p3-1000/512mb with xubuntu 8.04 also at acceptable speed.

I planned to keep 8.04 for the duration of its LTS cycle, to avoid the hassle of upgrades/reinstalls. However, I read in K.Mandla's blog at
http://kmandla.wordpress.com/2009/01/03/fair-but-honest-xubuntu-810/
that the 8.10 version had been streamlined a bit (as opposed to the opposite report on 9.04 at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1133123). The idea of a newer yet lighter release is tempting, but how noticeable is the improvement in system weight/speed? Does it make it worthwhile to lose the LTS benefit?

Thanks.

PS: Argh. Ommited the "S" in SPeed at the thread title. Can it be changed?
