Operating system shown twice during boot up

Hello, I am new to ubuntu and I installed it on the same HD as my windows pro. When I boot the machine up it shows ubuntu,then the recovery then another ubuntu,then another recovery then my windows xp pro. My question is why do I see 2 ubuntu installs? Could someone help me please?

Don't panic! It's probably not two separate installs. Every so often, the "Ubuntu kernel" gets updated, and the update process usually keeps an older version around, just in case you run into problems with the new version.

There's no obvious signs of something being wrong from what you've told us.
