View Full Version : [ubuntu] A way to list user installed packages from add/remove prior to clean re-install?

My hard drive has become unstable (Grub Error 17 sometimes on boot, fixed drive with fsck fpm SystemRescueCD but it came back, root partition came up as unformatted before repair but swap and ext were there-another story). Anyway, I want to do a clean install on a new drive. Is there any tool that will list all packages other than the Ubuntu defaults that I installed via Add/Remove or apt-get so I can easily re-create my current config? I don't suppose there is a MozBackup like tool, only for apps? It's not a mission critical system so it is no problem to back up user files and start over.

I don't know about user installed packages, yet you can use this guide for all. http://www.arsgeek.com/2006/09/19/ubuntu-tricks-how-to-generate-a-list-of-installed-packages-and-use-it-to-reinstall-packages/
