View Full Version : [xubuntu] serious video problems

Hey everyone,
I posted a similar but less informative in another section of this forum, but I think this post will be a bit more clear.

I got a Dell latitude D500 laptop with 1 gb of RAM. I had winXP on it which worked pretty good. no major errors or lagging.
I've installed xubuntu 9.04 on it, replaceing winXP.
I've installed every video codec I could find...
I'm encountering serious video issues :
1. When trying to watch mpg files through Totem or any other media player, I get a black screen but I can hear the audio. The only player which shows video is XBMC, but it has a huge lag...
2. When watching video on the internet (youtube for instance) I get video and audio but the video is lagging (just like with XBMC)
3. overall performance is slow... even just opening the home folder or loading calculator application. it is faw worse than winXP :(

I've also tried installing Ubunto, but I got the same results.
please let me of any advice...

Thanks you all !

If, as I believe, this laptop has Intel graphics on it then that is your problem.
There is a bug in 9.04 with Intel graphics.
You have three choices as I see it...
1. live with the problem
2. wipe drive & install Ubuntu 8.10 which works well with Intel graphics.
3. Google net & follow the suggestions of down grading Intel drivers.

This is why I, & others, do not install the latest version of Ubuntu.

Good luck.

Has anyone any better ideas before I take drastic measures and reinstall 8.10?

I have a laptop with intel video, I have tried allsorts, some stuff shows slight improvement but generally it's crap.
