View Full Version : [all variants] quick theoretical question about USB-creator

Hi everybody,

I've been using various live USB images of ubuntu based distros. It's been great- due to the nature of my work, I'm back and forth- and it's great to plug in my usb drive- boot up- and have all my softwares already installed.

I'm thinking about making a permanent parition on my laptop- however one thing I would like to know- is does the usb creator simply copy your current installation (most commonly a live-CD) to usb or does it copy a blank installation?

Ideally I could have my stuff going on my laptop- and for big updates- just install via USB-Creator to my jump-drive, which would include all my settings and installed software. Does it work that way?

USB-creator, as far as I know, just copies the liveCD to a USB disk and creates a directory to save your info. If you install from it, I think it will create a vanilla install, meaning it won't copy your docs and update software. Again, I'm not sure, but that's how I understand that it works.
