in gnome desktop on jaunty, can i change where downloads or screenshot end up on the desktop? it always seems to hide behind a screenlet or some other crazy place, like where a mounted drive or thumb drive is? Is there an order to where they end up?

I have noticed this as well. You should probably follow this bug reporting guide (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1011078) if there isn't already one. (I couldn't find one, but I didn't look too hard.) As for a temp fix, I would just change the download location to a folder on your desktop or home folder (I just call mine "DLs") and drop everything there. I use it as a kind of slush file for everything I grab of the 'net.

I don't use either of those addons, but for firefox, go to Edit->Preference and choose the Main tab. There about halfway down you should see a section called Downloads. You can either choose to have it display the download box or set an automatic download location.
