I'm trying to install ubuntu on an eeePC 900HA which came with windows XP. I made the USB installer on my Mac using instructions from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromImgFiles

I can't get the eeePC to boot from the USB. I can get as far as selecting USB as the boot device during startup by holding down "esc", but then I just get a "boot error". Any tips on getting the eee PC to boot from USB would be welcome! I'm new to ubuntu. thanks

Use Win XP to put the installation files on your hard drive. Then, install from your hard drive. I had a situation similar to yours so I suggest that you read my post to help you further: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1218862 .

Someone on this forum helped me. Now, I help you to return the favor. I invite you to return the favor by helping someone else on the forum. Have fun with your eee pc. My S.O. loves it. She bought a pink one and it's in her purse 24/7.

thanks! Actually before I saw your reply, I remade my usb boot on the Mac and for some unknown reason the install on the eeepc worked that time!

Now my eee boots in both ubuntu and XP, so I'm off to discover the joys of linux.... :D
