Is there a simple way to totally remove the file and folder Icons.
I keep several folders on the desktop but would like to just have the text showing. Not the Icons

Easy way is to right click and choose stretch icon. Just make it as small as it will go. There is then the option to restore it's size.

I don't think there's a way to do it through settings, but you can select a custom icon for any item by selecting its Properties, and then clicking on the icon. There's no reason why you couldn't select a transparent icon that you've made yourself.
